The Art Center of the Bluegrass is delighted to once again collaborate with two area artist organizations – the Plein Air Artists of Central Kentucky (PAACK) and The Gathering Artists – holding their annual exhibitions in the Great Hall and Upstairs Gallery of the Art Center from July 6 to August. 17.
En Plein Air 2022 will feature outdoor works created by PAACK members that have been produced at least 50% outdoors and on-site at an official and scheduled PAACK “art out” event during the two last years. Plein Air is a style of landscape painting and drawing dating to the early 19th century and was a central feature of French Impressionism. En Plein Air 2022 is presented by Couzens Dental.
For this year’s exhibition, members of The Gathering Artists decided to collaborate with each other in small groups, each performing a verse from Jesse Stuart’s poem “Kentucky is My Land.” Members were divided into 10 three-person artist teams, creating 30 fence boards which are assembled into 10 fence sections and displayed in the upstairs gallery of the art center.
“It’s one of my favorite times of the year, when our local artists are featured here in our galleries,” said Niki Kinkade, executive director of the Art Center of the Bluegrass. “We have such talented artists in this area of Kentucky, and the Art Center is a meeting space for both groups. We love giving them a space to exhibit and sell their work every year in this beautiful gallery setting. We hope the community will come out and support these talented artists.
An artists’ reception and official opening of the show to the public are scheduled for July 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Bluegrass Art Center. This event is free.
For those interested in joining a group of local artists, The Gathering Artists meets at the Art Center of the Bluegrass on the second Saturday of the month at 10:15 a.m. Contact [email protected], call 859-236-4054, or visit artcenterky.org to learn more.
