Chaffee Art Center hosts annual holiday exhibition and store opening reception, Friday

Friday, November 18 — RUTLAND — The Chaffee Art Center, your center for creativity, invites the community to its annual holiday exhibition and boutique opening Reception on Friday, November 18 from 5-7 p.m. Enjoy the holiday music , eggnog, hot chocolate bar and holiday treats as you explore the unique handmade treasures that are perfect for gifting this holiday season.

Please plan to join us to experience the beauty of the arts. The perfect time to start holiday shopping and mingle with artists and the community. This is a show for all members celebrating talented artists from our communities whose works will be on display in the historic 1890s mansion until December. Admission is free.

And there are plenty more holiday festivities at the Chaffee. On Saturday, November 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Chaffee is hosting a free gingerbread house-making workshop with double the fun. Make an edible gingerbread house, and create and decorate your own textile house with ribbons, pinecones and more. Make a snowman out of cotton balls and trees out of sugar cones.

This should help you prepare for our annual gingerbread contest. All interested bakers, schools, organizations, businesses, families, individuals and young people are invited to submit their imaginative gingerbread creations. Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required. All entries must be delivered to the Chaffee Art Center by November 22 or 23. The gingerbread creations will be on display beginning December 3, with the Gingerbread Contest Showcase Reception from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Chaffee will announce “People’s Choice” awards in various categories; visitors can vote for their favorite entry until December 22. Full details and the entry form are available at chaffeeartcenter.org.

As Chaffee celebrates 61 years as an arts center in the Rutland community, the center also invites you to join as an artist, single or family member to help the Chaffee continue to inspire and to cultivate creativity, while having a positive impact on the vitality of our community through the arts.

Plan to visit the Chaffee during opening hours to experience the historic 1890s building and the beautiful artwork that surrounds it. While there, imagine your next event, bachelorette party, wedding, reunion, or retreat at the magnificent 1890s Queen Anne-style mansion, affectionately known by its original owners as Sunny Gables.
