Chalk the Block, ArtOberfest Means a Busy Saturday for the Parkersburg Art Center | News, Sports, Jobs

PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg Art Center and Downtown PKB will host ArtOberfest and Chalk the Block on Saturday in downtown Parkersburg.

Both special events will take place in the 700 and 800 blocks of Market Street. The Chalk the Block Chalk Art Contest will take place from 1-5 p.m. and ArtOberfest from 6-10 p.m.

Chalk the Block is open to artists of all ages. They will create temporary works of art directly on the sidewalk between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Registration is open for teens and adults https://tinyurl.com/2s437j5w. Music will be provided by DJ Casey Powell and additional crafty entertainment by the ArtBeat Studio team. The artists will also be entitled to snacks by Maka Mia Pizza. The public is invited to join in the fun, watch the creativity flow and vote for the favourites. Cash prizes will be awarded thanks to Chalk the Block sponsor, Artsbridge.

The sixth annual ArtOberfest kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday. Artists will fill the block in front of the art center with unique, handcrafted items for sale.

Vendors include wood carvers, potters, metal smiths, bath and beauty products, molten glass, macrame, painters, sign makers and more.

The evening’s musical entertainment includes performances from OYO, Cutler Station and Ryann Renae. There will be food and beverages from WineDown on Market, Crystal Cafe, The Bodega and Parkersburg Brewing Company.

The PAC713 Art Center and Market will also be open throughout the evening so patrons can shop at the market and enjoy the gallery exhibit by West Virginia artist Patty Stewart. Discovery World On Market will have a craft station for kids inside the art center from 6-8 p.m.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. There are no tickets to buy and plenty of parking along Eighth Street.

In case of rain, the ArtOberfest party will move inside the Art Center. Chalk the Block will be rescheduled if needed.

ArtOberfest’s title sponsor is Bill Bailey Insurance, and its other sponsors are West Virginia University at Parkersburg, Downtown PKB, United Bank, Artsbridge, Joe Munoz, Specialty Traders, Discount Pool Supply, Wine Down on Market, Parkersburg Brewing Company, Chris Wilson and Apricot Street. !
