Downtown hosts first mural run for the community

Downtown Amarillo will host its first Mural Run, sponsored by the law firm Underwood to celebrate the firm’s 110th anniversary and benefit downtown.

The Mural Run will take place Saturday morning at 512 S. Polk St. in downtown Amarillo at the Cowboy Mural, with a 5K at 8:30 a.m. and a one-mile run/walk at 9:00 a.m.

“It will be a fun way to see the downtown murals, help raise funds for Center City and recognize Underwood Law’s 110th anniversary,” said Center City Executive Director Beth Duke.

The event will include a fun 1-mile run/walk and a 5K course, which will feature views of many of the downtown murals. The one-mile, 5-kilometer route will begin at the corner of 5th Street and Polk Street, head south down Polk Street, and end in the Officewise parking lot, located at 1200 S Taylor St., with the Amarillo mural.

After the race, event attendees are encouraged to stay and enjoy live music and family-friendly activities, such as corn hole games, bubble blowing, sidewalk chalk art and Moreover. Trophies will also be awarded to the first and second place winners for each age group in the 5k and run/walk.

“Over the past few years we’ve had so many colorful murals created all over the city, but especially downtown, and here in Center City, we thought what better way to bring the community together to celebrate just how downtown is beautiful,” Duke said.

The first annual Wall Run will also include a VIP Brunch, sponsored by National Bank Amarillo. The run/walk is pet friendly. Registered runners will receive a race shirt and registered pets will receive a pet bandana. Runners can register to participate in one or both races, as well as the VIP brunch.

The event also includes a Sandman ticket for people who wish to support the event but are unable to attend.
