The Northern Utah High School Art Competition and Petite Impressions exhibits at the Eccles Art Center are on display for their final week through Saturday. In February, prizes will be awarded for the 18th Biennial Statewide Black and White Competition during Ogden’s First Friday Art Walk at a public reception at the Art Center.

During January’s Art Walk, Eccles Art Center announced the winners of the third annual Northern Utah High School Art Contest, including Annalize Streeter for Best of Show, “Monument” (Syracuse High School); Merit Award to Morgan McEwen, “Splash of Cobalt” (Syracuse High School), Ella Streeter, “Shelter of Existence” (Syracuse High School), Samuel Taylor, “For Housing” (Ogden High School) and Averie Mcpheters, “Busy Honey Bee” (Bountiful High School); Jury Prize to Ashlyn Jamison, “The Mask” (Sky View High School) and Sierra Jones, “Where Did the Time Go?” (Bountiful High School); and Honorable Mention honorable for Ella Johnson, “Orchard” (Viewmont High School), Kashius Bey, “False Set” (Ogden High School), Trey Hustad, “Covered Jar” (Ridgeline High School) and Dawson Pitcher, “Awestruck” (Weber High School) .

The art center accepted works in all media by high school students from Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Rich and Weber counties for the scholarship competition. Students from public, charter and private schools from Bear River to Farmington signed up to participate.

Eccles Art Center also continues to feature accepted works from Utah artists who entered the Eccles Art Center’s Petite Impressions competition through Saturday. These small works measure less than 8 inches in any dimension with a frame of less than 15 inches. The competition was supported by new artists, those of the next generation as well as professional artists of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art.

Earlier this month, Eccles Art Center announced a call for entries for the Statewide Black & White Competition, a juried competition that awards three monetary prizes for first, second, and third place.

The black and white competition was open to all artists and photographers residing in Utah with original black, white and/or shades of gray artwork that is completed within two years and has not been exhibited before. in a juried exhibition sponsored by the EAC. Works in all media were accepted, including paintings, prints, monotypes, drawings, graphics, photographs, pottery, sculpture and textiles.

The Black & White competition is supported by grants from Weber County RAMP, Ogden City Corp/Ogden City Arts, the Utah Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

A reception for artists, friends and the community will be held on Friday, February 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave. The black and white competition prizes will be displayed at the reception and at the exhibition. will be exhibited from February 4 to 26.
