MENDOCINO, CA – The Mendocino Art Center (MAC) is hosting a full day of free activities on the second Saturday in conjunction with its members’ jury exhibit, featuring a ceramics sale, artist talk and gallery reception , February 12, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The annual Member Jury Exhibition, which runs through February 26, celebrates the creativity of Mendocino Art Center member artists and features two themes this year: an all-media theme and artwork related to book arts, in association with Book Arts Mendocino (BAM).
On the second Saturday, the MAC’s ceramic workshop will open its doors, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., for a “second sale” of functional and beautiful pottery and ceramics, with minor defects, at advantageous prices. The sale is a fundraiser to help MAC artists-in-residence travel to two major ceramics conferences this spring in Sacramento and Davis, CA.
At 3:00 p.m., an artist talk with Theresa Whitehill will open with an introduction by Felicia Rice of Moving Parts Press, one of this year’s jurors for the Members’ Lounge and a key BAM organizer. Whitehill, who recently presented an edition of prints titled “Waves Rolling In” at the Mendocino Art Center, will talk about his involvement in this collaborative project with local artist Josh Pierson in the mid-1980s and his time leading du Mendocino Art The center’s typography studio, Gray’s Trousers Press, which was located in the Mendocino Theater Company building.
From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., meet the exhibiting artists of the current CMA Member Jury Exhibition and view the award-winning works of art at the gallery reception. Book Arts Mendocino is a series of exhibitions and presentations, lectures and readings, workshops and demonstrations devoted to the vast and varied arts of the book. More than 20 events and exhibitions take place on the coast, continuing through February.
Admission to the gallery exhibition is free. For more information, call 707-937-5818 or visit MendocinoArtCenter.org. The Mendocino Art Center is located at 45200 Little Lake Street (at Kasten Street) in Mendocino. The gallery is open every day, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
