Santa Monica’s ‘Cardboard City’ pop-up art center returns

SANTA MONICA, CA – A 5,000 square foot interactive museum exhibit will return to Santa Monica this weekend.

Cardboard City is a free pop-up art event featuring huge cardboard sculptures, furniture, architectural models, costumes and more. The exhibit opens Saturday and features artwork from 25 Los Angeles artists along with hands-on activities.

The pop-up will offer an “Activity Zone”, making it possible to transform cardboard, a sustainable and recyclable material, into a wide range of creations. Cardboard materials and tools are child-safe and sustainably sourced, the Rediscovery Center said in a press release.

“Come to Cardboard City with an idea for something you want to do or follow one of our prompts to create a project like a hat, figurine or architectural model to take home or contribute to one of our collective sculptures,” center officials said. wrote.

Community groups of up to 30 visitors are welcome to attend, but groups of 10 or more should try to make a reservation.

Additionally, the reDiscover Center will feature a Cardboard City shop with sculptures, kits and tools to transform anyone’s home into a mini-Cardboard City.

The exhibit will run Saturday through August 14 from noon to 6 p.m. at Santa Monica Place, first floor.
