WAYNE – Art Quilt Elements, an international juried exhibition of contemporary quilts, is on view at the Wayne Art Center from March 27 to April 30, 2022. The highly anticipated return of this biennial exhibition opened with a reception in the gallery and center Meet the Artists Gallery Conference on Sunday, March 27 from 3-5 p.m. at the Wayne Art Center. This event is free and open to the public.
Returning as a gallery exhibition after going entirely virtual in 2020, this exhibition celebrates its fourteenth anniversary. Art Quilt Elements Founder and Committee Member, Cindy Friedman, shares that “The AQE Committee is thrilled to host this exhibit and welcome the art quilt community back to the Wayne Art Center.” Art Quilt Elements is dedicated to raising awareness of contemporary art quilts while providing established and emerging artists a place to share their creative endeavors with the public. Art Quilt Elements has earned a reputation as one of the most recognized art quilt exhibits in the country. The finest works are showcased, supporting the Wayne Art Center’s mission to educate the public about contemporary craftsmanship. The artists exhibiting this year represent twenty-two American states, Australia and Canada. The AQE 2022 jurors, Jane Milosh, independent curator, Paula Nadelstern, artist, author, teacher and fabric designer and Jason Pollen, artist and educator, selected fifty works from a collection of nearly 780 images for this biennial exhibition. . The featured artists’ work represents a diverse range of narratives and perspectives and employs a variety of techniques and materials as these works communicate the artists’ visions and narrative. Wayne Art Center Executive Director Nancy Campbell notes that “the work of Art Quilt Elements 2022 reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship and pays homage to a traditional medium expressed in modern themes”.
